Allens Pde, Lennox Heads
This breathtaking beachfront renovation and addition, designed by DFJ Architects and meticulously built by DTA Building, reimagines the classic beach shack into a modern, resilient masterpiece.
The clients envisioned a home that could withstand the harsh coastal elements—every material and detail had to be exceptionally durable and hard-wearing. Moving away from the typical white Byron Bay beach house aesthetic, they sought a moodier, more dramatic, yet inviting design. A key feature of their vision was indirect, diffused lighting reminiscent of high-end luxury hotels—no downlights or direct lighting, creating a warm and immersive ambiance.
This meticulous 14-month project demanded precision, technical expertise, and an unwavering commitment to quality. During the renovation, it was discovered that nearly 50% of the home’s framework had rotted and was on the verge of collapse, requiring a near-complete rebuild. Despite this challenge, DTA Building maintained the project’s timeline with minimal disruptions.
For Danny, this home stands out as one of his favorites, thanks to its striking mix of materials, innovative features, and exceptional attention to detail—particularly in the showstopping kitchen. The lighting design alone required extensive planning, resulting in a home that feels as luxurious as it looks. Every space is thoughtfully designed for effortless living while built to endure the coastal environment.
Award-Worthy Kitchen Design
The kitchen, entered into a prestigious design award, is a true statement of craftsmanship and functionality. Featuring Blackbutt timber, sleek black cabinetry, and a massive Caesarstone island bench, it is both visually stunning and highly practical. Thoughtful additions like integrated appliances, a Corten steel rangehood shroud, and servery windows opening onto both decks elevate the space to a new level of sophistication.
